Nancy Lee (Shallers) Falkenstein started her next great adventure on September 7, 2023 in New Albany. Like her late husband Jim, she was a life-long educator, retiring as a fifth-grade teacher at Parkwood Elementary in Clarksville in 1994. She was a member of the Pilot Club in Jeffersonville, the Red Hat Society, and the OWLS (Older Wiser Lutherans) at Faith Lutheran Church. She was also a member of the Shady Ladies in the KOA campground in St. Petersburg, FL. Nancy was Valedictorian of the class of 1954 at New Albany High School. She was a graduate and life-long fan of Indiana University. She and her high school sweetheart, Jim, traveled extensively in the U.S. and Europe and enjoyed winters with their Florida family in St. Petersburg, where they also taught dance lessons.
Nancy & Jim followed four basic tenets: be kind, work hard, learn a lot, and have fun. They instilled those precepts in their children who have passed them onto the next generation. Nancy grew older but never grew up. She claimed to be 86 on the outside but 11 on the inside and was a huge Mickey Mouse fan.
Nancy was preceded in death by her husband Jim and her parents, Dorothy & Alvin Shallers. She is survived by her four children, Mark (Brenda), Robin Anness (Mark), Todd (Kathy), and Wendy Arnhart (Neill); nine grandchildren, Ashley DeCoteau, Chris Bramble, Andrew Falkenstein, Hilary Renn, Kayla Jenkins, Sarah Ash, Brad Falkenstein, Melissa Anness, and Marin Anness; eight great-grandchildren, and her brother, Paul Shallers. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Alzheimer’s Association.
We’d like to think that Nancy & Jim are reunited once again and dancing at Jimmy Buffett's concert in Heaven. Nancy, mom, mother, Nanny, we love you very much and we'll miss you.
Visitation will be held from 10:30am to 1:30pm on Tuesday, September 12, 2023 at Scott Funeral Home, 2515 Veterans Parkway, Jeffersonville, Indiana 47130 with service to follow at 1:30pm. Burial will follow at Kraft Graceland Memorial Cemetery.
