Nelda Sue (Stewart) Eves, age 81, of Jeffersonville, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 26, 2025. Daughter of the late Rufus E. and Ruth (Cantrell) Stewart, Nelda was blessed with a heart full of compassion and a spirit of service. She spent many years as a home care worker, a role that came naturally to her since caring for others was truly her calling. Even in her youth, she delighted in helping and encouraging those around her, living out her faith in quiet but powerful ways.
Nelda was a devoted member of Christ Gospel Church. At home and upon any other given opportunity, she joyfully shared her musical gifts as an anointed pianist. She loved her music deeply—so much so that she often played for her beloved plants, filling her home with both song and life. With a green thumb and a nurturing spirit, Nelda found joy in gardening, cherishing the miracle of seeing withered things restored and thriving again. In the same way, she poured love and encouragement into everyone she met, becoming a true beacon of hope to family, friends, and all blessed to know her.
Nelda was preceded in death by her former husband and dear friend, Charles A. Eves, Sr; her son, John D. Eves; her sister, Mary Stanton; and her brother, Jimmy E. Stewart. Nelda leaves behind a legacy of love and faith that will be cherished forever by her children: Charles A. Eves (Damaris), Anita K. Eves, Rufus Eves (Ai), and Birgitta Lindsey; her sister, Martha Waldrep; ten grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will take place at 11 AM on Thursday, October 2, 2025, at Christ Gospel Church (2614 E. 10th Street, Jeffersonville). Visitation will be held 4–8 PM on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, at Scott Funeral Home (2515 Veterans Parkway, Jeffersonville), and from 10 AM until service time at the church on Thursday. Burial will follow in Walnut Ridge Cemetery.
Nelda Sue will be remembered for her faith, her music, her tender care, and the boundless love she spread throughout her life.
