Norene Wessel Obituary

Norene Elizabeth Wessel, a beloved mother and friend, passed away peacefully on March 4, 2024, at the age of 90.

Norene was born to the late Anthony and Norene Metzmeier, on June 23, 1933, in Louisville, KY. She graduated from Mercy Academy in 1951 as a honor roll student. Throughout her 90 years, Norene embraced life with warmth, grace, and an enduring spirit. She enjoyed the simple things in life, but above all the splendor of butterflies. She was a woman of many passions, among them her love for cooking and entertaining. Norene found joy in preparing delicious meals and hosting gatherings that brought family and friends together. Her kitchen was a place of love, laughter, and the comforting aroma of homemade delights.

A dedicated and diligent worker, Norene approached every task with determination and an unwavering work ethic. From being a seamstress to an accounting clerk, she was dedicated to every task she performed. Her commitment to excellence extended beyond the workplace, shaping the way she nurtured her relationships and cared for her family.

Tea parties held a special place in Norene's heart, and she was known for her impeccable hosting skills. Norene had a knack for creating an atmosphere where everyone felt welcomed and cherished.

One of Norene's simple pleasures was her love for ice cream, a sentiment she expressed with a charming lack of preference for any particular flavor. From classic vanilla to exotic blends, Norene savored every scoop, turning a sweet treat into a source of pure delight. Norene Elizabeth Wessel's legacy is one of love, kindness, and a zest for life that touched all who had the privilege of knowing her. She leaves behind a family and a community profoundly grateful for the richness she brought to their lives.

In addition to Norene’s parents, Anthony and Norene Metzmeier, she is preceded in death by her sisters, Mary Jane Moore and Mary Frances Kernen, and her brothers, Bill Metzmeier and Jim Metzmeier.

Norene is survived by her daughter, Marylee Wessel; her son, Rich Wessel; her sister, Roseann Wiebe, and a host of nieces and nephews.
