Norma Monroe Johnston

Norma Johnston, 95, of Jeffersonville, IN, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 10, 2022.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 15th, 2022 from 12 noon to 2:00 PM at Scott Funeral Home, 2515 Veterans Pkwy in Jeffersonville, with a graveside service to follow in Graceland Memorial Park in New Albany.

Norma was born on July 7, 1927 to the late Stanley Monroe & Fama Monroe of Watervliet Michigan.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, Robert “Bob” M. Johnston;

She is survived by her son, Robert Johnston; daughter, Sandra Melton; six grandchildren, Tyler Johnston, Dane Melton (Courtney), Lindsay Conner (Greg), Hunter Melton (Lauren), Parker Melton, and Keegan Johnston (Megan); and great-grandchildren, Simms Smith, Zoey Conner and Lennon Paige Johnston.

Norma graduated from Watervliet High School in Watervliet, Michigan, and got her BA from Kalamazoo College where she met the love of her life, Bob Johnston. 

Norma was a kindergarten teacher at Jack and Jill Kindergarten and started one of the first Head Start Progams in Southern Indiana.  She later became Assistant Director to the Clark County Child Welfare Department.

Norma in her later years, enjoyed being a docent at the Speed Museum, Farmington and then Spanish Point in Sarasota.

Memorial contributions in memory of Norma can be made to Hosparus of Louisville.  Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
