Phillip McClure Obituary

Phillip Ross McClure, 78, of Clarksville, Indiana, passed away peacefully at his home on June 24, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on December 22, 1946, in Leavenworth, Indiana, Phillip lived a life marked by quiet strength, devotion to family, and a steadfast work ethic.

A proud United States Army veteran, Phillip served his country bravely during the Vietnam War, earning two Purple Heart medals for his service and sacrifice. He carried his military pride with humility and dignity throughout his life, a true embodiment of courage and resilience.

Phillip was a man of many talents, especially known for his extraordinary skills in woodworking. His craftsmanship, always precise and thoughtful, was a reflection of the care he brought to every corner of his life. Whether he was building something beautiful with his hands, organizing a space to perfection, or offering a helping hand.  When he wasn’t working with wood or tending to a project, Phillip could often be found on the golf course or at the bowling alley—two of his favorite pastimes. These simple joys were made all the more meaningful by the company he kept, especially his lifelong golfing buddy, Frank Miller.

Phillip found his greatest joy in the time he spent with his family. He was a devoted husband to his wife of 45 years, Lois Gibson McClure, and a loving father to his children: Holli Wright (Steve), Traci Murrell (Bill), Phillip McClure Jr., Eric McClure, and Scott McClure. His legacy lives on in the values he instilled in them—hard work, loyalty, and the importance of family.

He is also survived by his sisters, Sue and Debbie; his brother, Mike; sister-in-laws, Charlene Hupp (Wayne), Peggy Gibson and Beverly Lyle (Ron) and many other beloved extended family members and friends.

Phillip was preceded in death by his parents, Ellis and Deenie Wiseman McClure and his brother-in-law, Ray Gibson whose love and influence shaped the man he became.

Though he has left this world, Phillip’s memory and the love he gave will remain deeply rooted in the hearts of those who knew him. In following his wishes, cremation was chosen, and
a celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Rest well, Phillip. You were deeply loved, and you will be deeply missed.
