Ralph Banks Obituary

Ralph Monroe Banks, age 69 of New Albany, passed away on Wednesday, April 29, 2026—and if you knew Ralph, you know heaven just got a whole lot livelier.

Born in Richmond, Virginia, to the late James and Juanita (James) Banks, Ralph brought his roots with him when he made his way to the tri-state area over thirty years ago. He fell in love with the place—and the people—and never looked back. New Albany became home, and through his work in maintenance and demolition across the Greater Louisville area, he quite literally helped shape the community he cared so much about.

A longtime member & volunteer for the City Church in Louisville, Ralph’s faith was the steady rhythm beneath his vibrant life. On any given beautiful day, you could find him outside, soaking in the sunshine, reflecting on life, and giving thanks for the many blessings he believed God had given him. But don’t let those quiet moments fool you—Ralph also knew how to turn up the volume on life. And turn it up, he did!

Whether he was passionately cheering on the Dallas Cowboys, glued to an episode of “Gunsmoke,” or keeping up with the twists and turns of “The Young & The Restless,” Ralph was all in. But his favorite stage might have been his own front yard, sitting on his bench, music blasting loud enough to draw in the neighbors. Before long, what started as Ralph’s personal jam session would turn into a full-on neighborhood celebration—singing, dancing, laughter, and joy shared by all. That was Ralph: he didn’t just enjoy life, he invited everyone else to enjoy it with him.  With a kind and generous spirit, Ralph had a gift for turning strangers into friends in record time. His warmth, humor, and genuine love for people left a lasting impression everywhere he went.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Calvin and Melvin Banks.

Ralph leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter, carried on by his beloved son, Ralph “Tree” Wyatt of Richmond, VA; the mother of his son, who remained his dear friend, Kathy Booker; his devoted life partner of over 20 years, Theresa Robertson; and his cherished grandchildren, Ralph Jr. and Raven Wyatt—truly the apples of his eye.

Ralph will be cremated according to his wishes, with arrangements entrusted to Scott Funeral Home, Jeffersonville.

Though he may be gone from our sight, you can almost hear it now—a little louder music, a little brighter joy, and a whole lot of love—Ralph’s way of reminding us to celebrate life every chance we get.
