Richard Allen Carter, age 78, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.

Born in Birmingham, Alabama, Richard was the cherished son of the late Rev. Till Carter and Bernice Carter. A man of unwavering dedication and courage, Richard proudly answered the call to serve his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. His distinguished military service earned him three Bronze Star Medals along with numerous other commendations and decorations, reflecting his bravery, sacrifice, and commitment to his fellow soldiers and nation.

For nearly 60 years, he shared a loving and enduring marriage with his beloved wife, Brenda Carter. Together, they built a life centered on faith, family, and unwavering support for one another. He was a proud and loving father to his daughters, Angela Reeves and Kathryn Carter, and a grandfather to his two grandchildren. He is also survived by numerous siblings, extended family members, and many friends who will forever treasure his memory.

Visitation for Richard will be held from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Monday, July 6, 2026, at Scott Funeral Home, 2515 Veterans Parkway, Jeffersonville, Indiana. Funeral services celebrating his life will begin at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home, with entombment to follow.
