Richard Condon Jr. Obituary

Richard Bernard Condon Jr., 65, passed away on Thursday, February 11, 2021 in Louisville, Kentucky. Rick was born October 19, 1955 in Louisville, Kentucky to the late Richard B. Condon Sr and Nadine E. Wrabetz Condon.

Rick is a graduate of St. X, class of 1973 and attended University of Miami (73-77), where he was the President of TKE fraternity (75-77), and later a Graduate of University of Louisville 1980, and also obtained his Masters from Spalding University in 2007. Rick inherited the Mutual of Omaha Kentucky Franchise from his father, later he started up Xelan Insurance with Ollie Mershon. He was the founder of the Derby City Dragons AAU basketball team, as well as a coach for many years. Later in life Rick found his passion for teaching at Daymar College and mentoring through Jeffersonville High as a staff teacher, J.A.G. instructor and Jeff HS Debate Coach. He continued his journey as a member of the First Christian Church of Jeffersonville, the Jeff Evening Optimists, and he proudly established the Jeffersonville High School Junior Optimist International “JOI” Club in 2018.

Rick had a lifelong desire to help others, whether it be humans or animals. He was a wonderful partner, beloved brother, and GAP Dad. Rick had a good sense of humor, and loved the movies Zulu, Conan the Barbarian and many others. He loved to collect music and he was a trivia champion with the Killer Amoeba.

In addition to his parents, Rick was preceded in death by his siblings, Linda Condon Donaldson, and Kathleen Condon Wade.

Left to cherish his memory, Rick is survived by his love of 16 years, Johanna Mehring; children, Erin Condon Bates (Danny), Richard “Chip” B. Condon III (Hannah), Tabby Jackson (Will); grandchildren, Tobias, Evelyn, Colin and Charlotte; siblings, Michele Jane Condon, Judy Condon Dostal, and Mary Nadine Condon; 6 nieces and nephews, Greg, Maureen, Mike, Amy, Danielle, and Matt; 8 great nieces and nephews, Emma, Christian, Claire, Catherine, Zach, Nick, Olivia, and Caroline; Joyce Bowling Condon, mother to Erin and Chip; the Walker family Clan, Toni Wiley (Dennis), Donna Gibson (Brent), Mike Walker (Kylaina), Rich Walker (Trinna), and Chris Walker (Sara); and a host of extended family and friends. He will be greatly missed by all the lives he touched. Rick was respected and admired by all he met.

A funeral service for Mr. Richard Condon Jr. will be held Saturday, February 20, 2021  at 12 PM at Scott Funeral Home, 2515 Veterans Parkway, Jeffersonville, Indiana. Visitation will be held Friday, February 19, 2021 from 4-8 PM and Saturday, February 20, 10-12 PM, prior to the service.
