Richard "Leroy" Pearson, age 89, passed away on May 22, 2024. Leroy was a remarkable craftsman and artisan, whose talent in his creation of novelty Christmas ornaments brought joy to many during the holiday season.
Born on May 27, 1934, to the late Richard and Ethel Mae Pearson in New Middleton, Indiana, Leroy grew up with a passion for creating and building, which led to a lifelong dedication to his craft. His ornaments, each a unique work of art, adorned countless homes and became cherished keepsakes.
Leroy proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1957 to 1958. His service was a testament to his dedication and love for his country. Leroy faithfully served as an accountant for more than 50 years before retiring from CSX Railroad Company.
Above all, Leroy will be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He shared a deep and enduring bond with his family, especially his grandchildren, who affectionately called him "Poppie." His warmth, wisdom, and kindness left an indelible mark on their lives.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Mae Pearson; and daughter, Rhonda Harrison.
Survivors include his daughter, Lisa Muncy; grandchildren, Natalie Harrison, Mackenzie Harrison (Elias Kang-Bartlett), Michael Muncy (Sara), James Muncy (Sandy), Butch Muncy; great grandchildren, Rylee Muncy and Donnie Muncy; son-in-law, Ken Harrison; special niece, Linda Whitlatch (Keith); and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends.
Visitation will be held 2-7 p.m. Tuesday, May 28, 2024, at Scott Funeral Home, 2515 Veterans Parkway. Funeral services in honor of Leroy’s life will celebrated 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 29, 2024, at Scott Funeral Home, with burial to follow at Walnut Ridge Cemetery.
