Rita Kahl Obituary

Rita Lynn Kahl, age 61 of Otisco, passed away on Monday, January 5, 2026, at Wedgewood Healthcare.  Born to the late George Wayne and Ethel (Tombs) Kahl, Rita was a proud graduate of New Washington High School. She worked for many years at Sears in Clarksville and later, as a devoted companion to “Granny Kahl” where her warm heart and gentle nature were always evident.

Rita was a faithful, active member of Emanuel Methodist Church in Otisco, Indiana. Her church family meant the world to her, and she gave freely of her time and energy through her involvement with the United Methodist Women. Rita brought joy and laughter to those monthly meetings and was determined to see those meetings continued.

Rita loved the outdoors.  She enjoyed mowing, working in her flowers and camping when the opportunity arose.  She also enjoyed crafts, flower arranging and her lastest diamond art--making beautiful Christmas cards that she gave to others.

An avid animal lover, Rita never hesitated to take in a critter in need. Above all else, her heart belonged to horses. From childhood on, Rita lovingly cared for them—feeding, running, and watching them grow.  These included Misty, her Missouri Fox Trotter and Lady, her Quarter Horse.  She enjoyed riding them in the 4th of July parade each year in Pekin.

In addition to her parents, Rita was preceded in death by her longtime companion, David Blesset.  She leaves behind to cherish her memory a brother, Jeffrey Kahl of Charlestown; her uncle, Maurice Kahl (Kay) of Jeffersonville; her aunts, Earlene Silverthorn and Edie Cooper, both of Salem; along with numerous cousins and a cherished church family she considered her own.

Rita’s legacy is one of kindness, faith, and unconditional love. Her gentle presence will be deeply missed, but her spirit will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.

Rita will be cremated. A Celebration of Life will be held 3PM on Saturday, March 7, 2026 at Emanuel Methodist Church in Otisco, Indiana. Arrangements have been entrusted to Scott Funeral Home, 2515 Veterans Parkway, Jeffersonville.
