Robert E. Bratcher

Robert Earl Bratcher Sr., beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on May 24, 2025, at the age of 74. Born on April 9, 1951, in Louisville, Kentucky, to Elizabeth Gay and Robert Allen Bratcher. Robert was raised in Clarksville, Indiana, where he attended Clarksville High School.

Robert’s early career began in Louisville at Industrial Carbide, where he worked in sales and management. His entrepreneurial spirit took him and his wife, Linda Louise Treadwell, whom he married in 1978 after a chance and fateful meeting during spring break in Fort Lauderdale, to Columbia, South Carolina. There, they started a new chapter both professionally and personally, welcoming their son, Rob, in 1981 and later their daughter Heather in 1986. Robert’s daughter Tracy, from his earlier marriage to Margaret, was also a part of their life in South Carolina. The family eventually returned to Indiana in 1986 when Robert took a job with Michigan Knife which later became Simonds Industries where he worked until retirement.

A passionate technophile and creative spirit, Robert recorded mix tapes in his younger years with voiceovers under the name “Skip Dennis”, and later became an early adopter of digital cameras, video editing, and computer technology. He built bulletin board systems in the pre-internet era and spent countless hours documenting and preserving family memories, becoming the family's unofficial historian and storyteller.

Despite facing deep personal loss—the passing of his daughter Tracy in 2003 and his wife Linda in 2006—Robert’s strength and commitment to his family never wavered. His love for his children and grandchildren remained the heart of his life. Robert is survived by his son, Robert E. Bratcher Jr. (Kelly), and daughter, Heather Ragland (Keith); his grandchildren: Matthew McIntyre, Aidan Spalding, Leah Spalding, Eli Ragland, Emma Bratcher, and Callen Bratcher; his brothers James Blanford (Deana) and Kevin Bratcher (Tammy) and many extended family members and friends who were touched by his wit, wisdom, and warmth.

A celebration of Robert’s life will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2025 from 11:00 – 3:00 at Scott Funeral Home. The family welcomes memories, stories, and photos that honor the legacy of a man who gave so much and left an enduring impact on everyone who knew him.
