Robert M. “Bob” Johnston, was born on November 7, 1924. He passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 20, 2020. Visitation will be held on Friday, October 23, 2020 from 12-2:30 PM at Scott Funeral Home, 2515 Veterans Pkwy in Jeffersonville, with a graveside service to follow in Graceland Memorial Park in New Albany.
Bob was born the son of Merton and Madge Johnston of Indianapolis. He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Norma Johnston; a son, Robert Johnston; a daughter, Sandra Melton; six grandchildren, Tyler Johnston, Dane Melton (Courtney), Lindsay Conner (Greg), Hunter Melton (Lauren), Parker Melton, and Keegan Johnston (Megan); and a great granddaughter, Zoey Conner.
Bob graduated from Shortridge High School in Indianapolis, and got his BA from Kalamazoo College where he met the love of his life, Norma Monroe. He served as a pilot instructor in the US Army Air Corp during WWII, and later was recalled to serve in the USAF in Okinawa during the Korean War. Bob was an active member of Rotary for over 50 years, and the Jeffersonville Jaycee’s.
Bob was an avid tennis player up to his 89th year. He and Norma loved to open their home to foreign exchange students from all over the world and travel the world. He was a builder and developer in Southern & Central Indiana.
Memorial contributions in memory of Bob can be made to the Clark County Youth Shelter. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
