In accordance with JT’s wishes, cremation was chosen.

JT lived a life of unwavering dedication and love, committed to the service and safety of his community. He began his career as a 911 dispatcher, demonstrating his care and compassion from the start. JT's journey continued as an EMT and then a fire investigator for the Indiana State Fire Marshal. His deep sense of duty led him to the Clark County Sheriff’s Office, where he served as a detective, police officer, and K9 drug handler. His expertise extended to training as a bomb explosive expert with the K9 unit. As a member of the Clark County Fraternal Order of Police #181, JT exemplified bravery and camaraderie. He was also a passionate gun enthusiast, but his greatest love was for his family.

JT was preceded in death by his father, James Thomas Raney II; grandparents, Garland “Grant” Oakes and Katherine Oakes; grandparents, James Thomas Raney and Dora Raney; and his brother in law enforcement, Wayne Nicholson.

He leaves behind his beloved wife, Misty Raney, whose unwavering support and love were his constant source of strength; his mother, Carole Raney-Watson, whose guidance shaped the man he became; and his bonus son, Jaxon Carroll, who brought joy to his life. JT’s sister, Kathy Raney Webster (Terry), niece Sarah Poole, and nephew Stiles Poole will forever cherish their memories of him. He adored his grandchildren, Mia Rose, Xavier James, and Hazel Grace, who were the light of his life. JT is also survived by his great-nephew, Braxton Poole; great-niece, Lilly Ferree; his loving cousin, Kristen Negus-Parks; and numerous other aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

JT’s commitment to his community and his boundless love for his family will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His legacy of service, dedication, and love will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing him.
