Shirley Shingleton, 78, passed away peacefully at her residence on June 20, 2026, surrounded by the love and comfort of her family.
Born on July 31, 1947, Shirley lived a life defined by devotion, kindness, and an extraordinary ability to nurture both people and plants. Above all else, she cherished her husband, Gordon, and her family. Their love was the foundation of her life, and she found her greatest joy in the time spent with those she held dear.
Shirley had a special gift for gardening and was known by family and friends as someone who could bring beauty back to life. She never met a struggling plant she wouldn't take home and care for. Time and again, she would rescue plants that others had given up on, tending to them with patience and love until they flourished once more. One such plant, lovingly restored by Shirley, still sits proudly on her porch today—a lasting symbol of her gentle spirit and nurturing heart. If it could grow, Shirley could grow it.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 62 years, Gordon Shingleton; her daughter, Ronnie Sue; her siblings, David Henderson, Jim Henderson, Dovie Nune, Diane Brewer, and Mike Shingleton; and numerous extended nieces, nephews, and other family members who will forever cherish her memory.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Luther and Minerva Henderson; her daughter, Shirley Ann "Giggles"; and her brothers, Larry Henderson, Paul Henderson, and Robert Henderson.
Shirley will be remembered for her unwavering love, her generous heart, her beautiful gardens, and the warmth she shared with everyone fortunate enough to know her. Though she will be deeply missed, the seeds of love she planted throughout her life will continue to bloom in the hearts of her family and friends for generations to come.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Scott Funeral Home, 2515 Veterans Parkway, Jeffersonville, Indiana 47130.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 25, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home, with burial to follow at Walnut Ridge Cemetery.
The family finds comfort in knowing that Shirley's love, faith, and gentle touch will never be forgotten.
