Thomas Shepherd Obituary

With heavy hearts and cherished memories, we announce the passing of Thomas “Buzzy” Shepherd, who left this world peacefully on August 31, 2025. He was 69 years old.

Born on March 3, 1956, Buzzy was a man defined by kindness, humility, and joyfulness. He lived a life centered on love—love for his family, for his friends, and for the simple joys that made each day a gift.

Buzzy was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He is survived by his beloved wife of 14 years, Deborah, who brought light and laughter into his later years. His daughters, Amy Jo and Tia (Bobby), were the pride of his life, and son, Jeff (Staci); and his grandchildren—Emma and Mason, Cayden and Barrett—were his heart and soul. He found endless joy in their smiles and stories, and there wasn’t a moment he wouldn’t spend cheering them on or simply being present in their lives. Being their “Poppy” was his greatest blessing.

He is also survived by his sister, Sandy Mann (Ricky); his brothers, Ronnie and Lyndell (Alisa); his niece, Heather Hobbs (Robbie); and brother in law, Bobby (Becky); and many cherished nieces, nephews and friends who were touched by his warmth and generous spirit.

A lifelong fan of the University of Louisville, Buzzy could always be found rooting for the Cardinals with unwavering loyalty. He found peace in the outdoors, whether casting a line on a quiet lake or working on a new project in his woodshop, where he poured patience and skill into every piece he crafted. Buzzy also had a deep love for his family vacations at the beach, where the sound of the waves and the rhythm of 80’s music—especially John Mellencamp and Kid Rock—provided a perfect backdrop to his contented soul.

Those who knew Buzzy will remember him as a man who never sought the spotlight, but always shone with compassion and sincerity. He was a listener, a helper, and a presence of calm and steady love. His beloved dog, Jackson, who preceded him in death, was always by his side—a faithful companion who, like Buzzy, loved deeply and gave freely.

He now joins his parents, Paul and Marlene Shepherd, in eternal rest.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 6, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Scott Funeral Home, 2515 Veterans Parkway, Jeffersonville, Indiana. A funeral service will follow at 6:00 PM at the funeral home.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff at Hosparus, whose care and kindness during Buzzy’s final days meant the world.

Though he may no longer walk beside us, “Buzzy” legacy of love, humility, and contentment will live on in all who had the honor of knowing him.

“Life goes on, long after the thrill of living is gone.” – John Mellencamp
