Tommy Cowart Obituary

Tommy Gene Cowart, age 81, of Jeffersonville, Indiana, by way of Adel, Georgia, passed away suddenly at home on March 25, 2025. A true South Georgia boy, Tommy’s life was a testament to integrity, faith, and hard work, the very essence of the belief that “you get what you sow.”

A kind yet straightforward man, Tommy never left room for misunderstandings, always ensuring those around him knew exactly where they stood in his heart and mind. He was unwavering in his devotion to his family and his faith, a dedication most clearly seen through his lifelong commitment to Branham Tabernacle.

Tommy often recalled the first time he laid eyes on his beloved wife, Carol Simmons. From that moment on, his pursuit of her love never wavered, and for more than 60 years, they built a life together defined by steadfast love and mutual devotion.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Mary Cowart; and sister, Janice Palmer.

He is survived by his loving wife, Carol Cowart; his cherished daughter, Tabitha Sumner; his adored grandchildren, Stephen Sumner and Thomas Sumner and his wife, Skylar; and his precious great-grandchildren, Charleigh Rae Sumner, John Thomas Sumner, and Lucy Evans Sumner. He also leaves behind his siblings, Sue Nazal (John), Donisa Zetrour (Gary), and Richard Cowart, as well as his in-laws, Charles and Mary Walker, Lamar Palmer, Gene and Joanne Pitts.

Visitation will be held 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, at Scott Funeral Home, 2515 Veterans Parkway. Followng visitation there will be a brief, private service at the Branham Tabernacle at 1:30. pm,  followed immediately by the graveside service at Eastern Cemetery, to which all are welcome to attend. His legacy of love, faith, and integrity will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
