Walter Ronald “Ron” Pendergrast, age 88, passed away peacefully on February 21, 2026, leaving behind a powerful legacy of service, entrepreneurship, wisdom, and love.
Born on December 12, 1937, Ron was the beloved son of Elsie Hayden and William Pendergrast. From an early age, he developed the strength, discipline, and determination that would define his life.
Ron proudly served his country as a veteran of the United States Army. His time in service reflected the honor and resilience that remained hallmarks of his character throughout his life.
A visionary and natural entrepreneur, Ron owned and operated Captain’s Closet, a clothing store that reflected his style, confidence, and business acumen. Over the years, he pursued multiple business ventures, always striving to build and create opportunities. He later dedicated his professional career to Jefferson County Public Schools, serving as a building inspector with a focus in engineering. In this role, he ensured that structures were built on strong foundations — a reflection of the solid foundation he established within his own family.
Ron was known for his voice — steady, thoughtful, and full of wisdom. He could speak at length, offering guidance, life lessons, and perspective shaped by decades of experience. His conversations were rich with knowledge and intention. Many will forever carry the advice he so generously gave.
He is survived by his loving children: Nia Pendergast, Dedra Daugherty, Tanya Daugherty Hyde, Antoinette Daugherty , and bonus daughter Shae Dunn. He was preceded in death by his cherished daughter, Lisa Ramsey Johnson.
Ron also leaves behind his devoted life companion, Judith Cooper; his beloved sister, Vicki Pendergrast; his special cousin, Arthur Hayden Jr.; and a host of extended family and friends who will continue to honor his memory.
Walter Ronald “Ron” Pendergrast lived a life of leadership, service, vision, and devotion to family. His legacy lives on through the businesses he built, the wisdom he shared, and the generations he influenced with his strength and guidance.
Though he has departed this earthly life, his voice, his lessons, and his love will remain forever present in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
