Weslie Manek passed away peacefully at age 92. She was born in Poland to parents Janina and Valerian Kempa. She immigrated after World War 2 to Chicago where she met her husband Walter Manek. She leaves behind her daughters, Christine Townsend, Eva Scanlan with her husband Andrew Scanlan; and Wanda Iza with her husband Marcos Iza; and her son Thomas Manek along with his wife Betty Manek; She also leaves behind her grandchildren Weslie Iza, Christopher Manek, Merritt Moll, Stephen Manek, Jack and Cate Scanlan and great grandchildren Owen and Francis Manek.
Weslie was preceded by her husband Walter Manek whom she was married to for 33 happy years before his death in 1988. They married in Chicago and raised their children there, then later in Carmel, Indiana, and Louisville, KY. She retired with her husband Walter to Sarasota Florida before returning to Jeffersonville, Indiana to live her last years. Also preceding in death her sister Grace.
Weslie was a brave woman who survived the hardships of World War 2 in Poland before immigrating to to Chicago. She was a busy homemaker for her husband and children, a talented and creative seamstress, a gourmet cook, a gardener, and a busy, beautiful woman that was the foundation of her childrens’ lives. She exemplified the the ethics of hard work, religion, her Polish culture along with embracing American freedoms. She encouraged her children to be successful and good people.
She was loved by her children’ spouses and families, the Krugers and Izas, and many friends over the years, She led a busy, vibrant life. Her smile, and command of life, her gentle and gracious manner will be greatly missed; And, her impression on this earth will remain with all that knew her.
