William Thornton Obituary

William Morris Thornton, age 69, passed away suddenly and entered Eternal Life on August 14, 2024. Born on September 13, 1954, William was a man of deep faith, unwavering love, and a heart as big as the catch he would bring in from his beloved catfishing expeditions.

For 42 years, William was the devoted and loving husband of Terri Thornton. Their bond was a beautiful example of steadfast love and commitment. Together, they built a life filled with joy, faith, and family. William was a proud Paw Paw to 29 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren, and he poured out his heart and soul into his family, always leading with faith and kindness. His legacy of love will be carried on by each and every one of them.

A lifelong fan of Indiana University Basketball and a dedicated Miami Dolphins fanatic, William was passionate about his teams, but nothing compared to his passion for family and his love for the Lord.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Helen and Howard Thornton; siblings, Kathy Thornton and Montgomery Thornton.

Survivors include his loving wife, Terri Thornton; children, William Quan McClain, Juan Martin, Morrisey McClain, Terrance Martin (Lisa), Kathleen Sears, Kathy Thornton, Anitra Coatley-Williams, Madonna Martin, Tamica Thornton, Tyesia Thornton; and sisters, Sherry Thornton and Dawn “Renee” Thornton; 29 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren; and aunts, Mary Ann Walker, Pearl Brooks, and Cozella Sheckles.
