William “Bill” Hogue, 84, passed away Friday evening, December 4, 2020, in Louisville,
Kentucky. He is survived by his children, Jeff Hogue (Pam Forsee) of Louisville; Janice Asher
(Jerry) of Scottsburg, Indiana; Jennifer Sparkman (Melvin) of Jeffersonville, Indiana; and
Rebekah Leffler of Jeffersonville; a brother, Jerry L. Hogue (Janice) of Louisville; grandchildren
Brandon (Brandi) Sparkman, Matt Asher, Brittany Sparkman, Alyssa Tilley, Marissa Tilley,
Samantha Leffler, and Natasha Leffler; and great-grandchildren, Charli Sparkman and Michael
Lee; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years,
Joyce Ratts Hogue; grandson Michael Wayne Asher; his sister, Betty Jewell; and his parents,
Roy and Helen Hogue.
Bill was born on December 2, 1936, in Metropolis, Illinois. He was a graduate of Southern High School in
Louisville and University of Louisville, where he earned a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in
education. He was a United States Air Force veteran.
He taught high school honors English and literature at Valley High School, Western High School, and
Waggoner High School in Louisville for over 40 years. Upon retiring from teaching, he continued to work
for Jefferson County Schools on their painting crew.
Throughout his life, Bill possessed a deep faith and dedicated much of his free time to biblical research
and theological topics. His other great lifelong passion was music -- he played the organ, ukulele and
harmonica, and also sang in a barbershop quartet.
Visitation will be private, with burial in Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Jeffersonville. Funeral services will be
