Funeral services for Wilma Smith, 78, of Jeffersonville, Indiana, will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, May 26, 2022 at Gilt Edge Baptist Church, 1713 D.L. Motley Way, Jeffersonville, Indiana, with burial to follow in Eastern Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4-8 PM at Scott Funeral Home, 2515 Veterans Pkwy in Jeffersonville, and on Thursday prior to the service from 10-11 AM at the church. On Tuesday, May 17, 2022, surrounded by her children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews and close friends, Wilma decided she was ready to go home and be with Jesus.
Wilma was born on December 22, 1943 in Brownsville, Tennessee to the late Poston and Myrtle Palmer. Wilma gave her life to Christ at a young age while attending her childhood church, Joshua Tabernacle Baptist Church. She later became a member of Gilt Edge Baptist Church in Jeffersonville. Wilma was a homemaker for many years. Wilma loved Jesus, her family, cooking and hosting gatherings. She even enjoyed sharing her favorite recipes with her family and friends.
Along with her parents, Wilma was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Smith Sr.; and four siblings, Willie D. Palmer, Dorothy Palmer, Ella Mae Kavanaugh and Grace Palmer.
She is survived by eight children, Ketrina Goodwin (Bobby), Paul McGhee (Kim), Mark McGhee, Bobby McGhee, Tony McGhee (Cynthia), Leonard Smith Jr. (Kelly), April Mattingly (D.J.), Brandon McGhee; three siblings, George Palmer Sr. (Bessie), Myrtle Baltimore (Sonny), Julius Palmer (Brenda); eighteen grandchildren, Corey Palmer, Brian McGhee, DeJa McGhee, Briana McGhee, India McGhee, A.J. Castro, Tiara Pitman, Taylor Ross, Adrianna McGhee, Heaven McGhee, Lawrence Joshua, Alyanna Miles, Michael Harris, Keiton Smith, Kiela Smith, Kendyl Smith, Cydnee Smith and Carsen Smith; and a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
